The rocket designed by CranSEDS is practical. As a student organisation our purpose is not only to experience building and launching a rocket, but we also aim to be noticed at the rocket launch by professionals in the aerospace engineering industry, which a successful rocket launch should help us do.
The CranSEDS rocket will be 2 meters high and have a dry mass of approximately 5 kg. Using a solid rocket motor, student-designed avionics, and ordered parts, it will be able to reach an altitude of 2 km. It will be made from commercially available parts for amateur rocket construction. This rocket has been designed entirely by students in CranSEDS.
With additional funding, other scientific goals such as instrumentation could be achieved. As students interested in rocketry and spacecraft engineering, experiments with payload and avionics utilising sensors or cameras could be added. The CranSEDS rocket could be customised to accommodate various experiments that would create valuable learning experiences for students working on the rocket.
